A beautiful addition to your fireplace.
If you are one of the lucky people to own a real wood burning
fireplace, you know that you also have to keep it clean to keep it
functioning great. You could use a regular household broom and pan to
clean out those ashes, but wouldn’t it be so much nicer to use something
made for the job?
Fireplace tool sets have special features that make cleaning out your
fireplace easier, such as sturdy iron construction and heat-resistant
brushes. The brush is sized to fit easily into the firebox and the pan
is the correct size for the brush, making sweeping the ashes and
disposing of them a simple project rather than a messy one.
Another bonus feature of a fireplace tool set is that it can add to
the style and beauty of your fireplace and home decor. There are so many
designs to choose from, you are sure to find one that fits your needs
perfectly. You can even find some that have matching fireplace screens
and log holders to complete the look.

Add this beauty to your fireplace today!
We all know that fireplaces don’t get much use in the summer. But
that doesn’t mean they need to be completely neglected. This is valuable
real estate in your home, so you should get the most use out of it as
you can. If you are neglecting your fireplace in the summer simply
because it is too hot to burn a fire, think again. Tap into the beauty
of decorating your fireplace during the hotter months of the year.
One great idea for decorating your fireplace is to add a fireback.
These fireplace accessories are not only decorative, but also
practical. During the summer, they can add a special interest to your
fireplace. Then, in the winter, when you are actually burning fire for
heat, they will add to the efficiency of your fire by absorbing and
deflecting the heat back into your room, even after the fire is burnt
out.
Consider adding a fireback to your fireplace, and enjoy its beauty year round!

Looking for some fun and quick ways to
dress up your fireplace for the Fourth of July? Here are five great
ideas that are easy, but look very sophisticated and elegant for this
patriotic holiday. All you need to get started is your favorite fireplace candelabra, some candles, a little bit of
ribbon, and some glass beads or rocks.
1. Place red, white, and blue candles on your fireplace
candelabra. This one is the easiest and fastest. Have fun
shopping for some nice candles that compliment each other. Keep your
reds and blues in the same tone so that they don’t clash. Be creative
with the candles: try a few blue candles that have stars on them in the
upper left of your candelabra and maybe some alternating red and white
candles for the rest to resemble the American Flag!
2. Place red and white candles on the candelabra and drape
with blue ribbon. This one is very simple as well, but be sure
to buy a ribbon that has the wire in it, so that it is easier to drape
exactly how you want it. A blue ribbon with silver glitter or sparkles
would be a perfect find! A word of caution on this one: it is not
recommended that you light the candles with the ribbon in place. Remove
the ribbon before lighting for your safety.
3. Place white candles on the candelabra and use blue and red
glass beads underneath. For this one you will need the glass
beads or rocks. You also have the option of placing the beads directly
on your clean firebox floor, or for ease in removal, place the beads on a
cookie sheet or shallow pan. If you choose the second option, be sure
to cover the edges of your pan with a few extra beads.
4. Place red and blue candles on the candelabra and use white
rock underneath. This one is similar to idea #3, but with a
twist. If you place a mirror underneath the white sparkling rocks, and
then light your candles, you will get a beautiful effect of thousands of
tiny bursts of light (kind of like fireworks!). How perfect for the
Fourth of July!
5. Place white candles on the fireplace candelabra, each
encircled with ribbon. This one takes a little extra time, but
the effect can be very elegant. Find a nice wide red ribbon, perhaps
made out of tulle or other light material. Wrap a small piece around
each white candle. Then take a slightly thinner blue ribbon and wrap it
around the candle, positioning it in the center of the red ribbon. Use a
hot glue gun to secure the ribbon in the back, or you could make a
simple bow around the front of each candle.
Remember, these are just suggestions and hopefully jumping points for
your imagination to soar as you create your own unique styles. Also
remember that you can use this patriotic display for more than just this
July. Keep the materials used to create your patriotic fireplace
candelabra and use them on other holidays such as Memorial Day or Labor
Day or maybe even President’s Day! Happy Fourth of July and have fun
creating your patriotic fireplace candelabra masterpiece!

Large Black Pellet Scuttle

- Pellet Scuttle a.k.a.
Flower Vase
This black coal hod may seem like an everyday
ordinary bucket, but think again. It can be used as a coal bucket, or
pellet scuttle, as its name suggests, but can't you just picture a
bouquet of bright and happy sunflowers sitting in it on your front
porch? I love the idea of using this and other fireplace
accessories as home decor and not just as practical tools for your
fireplace. If you aren't particularly found of black, check out some
other coal
buckets with different finishes, such as brass, copper or pewter.

Coal buckets, ash containers, coal hods, call them what you will, but
they are very useful fireplace tools. They can be used for many things
other than their namesake, though. Here is a list of ten creative ideas
about how to use your ash bucket.
1. Hot Ash Container – Here is the most obvious way to use your ash
bucket. When you are cleaning out your fireplace and you still have some
hot ash, you can place it in one of these containers to let it cool
down before disposing of it into your garbage. Some designs have a
double reinforced bottom so that you can leave the container on your
hearth without worrying about heat damage. Others designs are not
reinforced, so it is recommended that you place the ash container on a
heat resistant surface or outside until the ashes are cool.
2. Pellet or Coal Container – This is another fairly common way to
use your ash container. When used this way, it is easy to see why these
buckets are sometimes called coal hods. Many are made with an extra
handle on the side of the container in order to make pouring heavy coal
or pellets easier. Coal hods are also commonly designed to be taller and
narrower to ease in the pouring of coal into the hot fire.
3. Decorative Accent – While not in use, ash containers don't have to
be hidden away into a closet. They are often given a special finish,
like pebbled copper or antique bronze so that they can be proudly
displayed on your hearth along with your other fireplace accessories.
4. Flower Pot – If you don't particularly like the look of an empty
coal bucket sitting on your hearth, consider using either real flowers
or silk flowers to create a nice bouquet. This is a simple and easy way
to change the look of your fireplace throughout the seasons. In the fall
you could use orange-colored flowers or fall leaves. In the winter, a
small pine tree or some pine cones would be very festive sitting inside
an ash container. A fresh bouquet of lilies or tulips would be perfect
for spring. In summer, consider roses or daisies. Another great idea
would be to decorate for the holidays. Try a bunch of Irish shamrocks
for St. Patrick's Day; a few carefully chosen red, white and blue
flowers and a flag for the Fourth of July; a dozen red roses for St.
Valentine' Day. The possibilities are really endless and totally up to
your imagination. This is an area where you can really let your creative
juices flow!
5. Front or Back Porch Display – Using some of the decorative ideas
above, in number four, you can take your ash container outside to add a
little color to your porch. In fact, since it will be outdoors, you
could even use real potted plants to accent the entrance to your home.
The ash containers make great decorative pots for a country-style home.
6. Kindling Holder – Beyond using your ash container for holding coal
or pellets, it can also be used to hold kindling. Gather all your small
pieces of firewood and sticks and place them in your ash bucket so they
will be in a handy spot whenever you want to quickly start a fire.
7. Newspaper Holder – Don't know what to do with all your used
newspapers (other than recycle them, of course)? Roll them up and place
them in your ash container so they are ready to use when you need to
start a warm fire.
8. Fireplace Tool Holder – If you don't have the luxury of owning a
full fireplace tool set, then consider using your ash bucket as a
convenient place to store your fireplace tools. Stand them up inside the
ash bucket and lean them against your fireplace as a nice decorative
touch.
9. Decorative Wastebasket – Now we are really going to think outside
the firebox! If you have a country-style home, a coal bucket would make a
lovely decorative wastebasket in any room. Remember those nice handles
on the side? They would make dumping garbage out easier, too!
10. Decorative Water Pail – Who says you have to hold dry items in
your ash container? You could use it as a watering pail. Again, those
lovely handles on the side would make pouring water on your precious
indoor or outdoor plants a breeze.
Now that you have some ideas to go on, try thinking of some other
ways to use your Fireplace
Coal Buckets. Remember, you don't have to use them just for
fireplace related tasks. Above all, have fun being creative while
decorating your house into your home.

Mother’s Day is only two weeks away!!!
Have you decided what you will be doing for your special mom? If you
are thinking of getting her an old stand-by like flowers or candy, think
again!
Fireplace accessories are a great way to say, “I
love you!” to your mom. Unlike flowers, they will never wilt and die.
And unlike candy, they won’t go “straight to her hips.” In fact,
whenever she looks at her fireplace decor she will again be reminded of
how much she means to you.
So do something extra special for your mom this year! Get her a
unique fireplace bellows or fireplace candelabra. A decorative fireplace screen with a matching fireplace tool set would really show your
appreciation for all she does for you. Find her something she can enjoy
for many years to come, not just for a few weeks!

Enjoying the fresh spring air and the
lovely aromas of new green grass and budding blossoms, your fireplace is
probably the last thing on your mind. You’ve finished spring cleaning
your fireplace and are ready to put aside all your unused firewood for
the year. But remember that your fireplace doesn’t have to be forgotten
during this warm time of the year. It can still be the focal point of
your home and home décor.
How can you use your fireplace without the heat of a fire? A
fireplace candelabrum is a quick and easy way to bring some warmth and
style to your fireplace without that heat. You could simply purchase one
and place it in your fireplace as is. But did you know that there are
ways to make fireplace candelabra even more unique and styled
specifically for your home? Here are ten great tricks for decorating
your fireplace candelabra.
-
Use Fabric to Decorate Your Fireplace Candelabra –
Having fireplace candelabra lit in your fireplace can create a warm
glow and an inviting flicker, but you will not always have your candles
lit. So during the times when you do not, you can add a little color
using fabric. Find a color and design that matches the rest of your home
décor, and purchase a small amount; about a yard should be plenty.
Simply wrap the fabric around and in and out of the spindles of the
candelabrum. Let some of the fabric bunch and billow out at random
intervals. Tuck in the ends and edges and you quickly have a beautiful
centerpiece. Replace the candles, but remember to remove the fabric
before lighting them.
-
Use Different Candle Colors for Different Occasions – Decorating
for a specific occasion or holiday? Don’t forget to change the color of
your candles in your fireplace candelabra! This is such an easy trick,
but it is very effective. Think about the colors normally associated for
the season, such as light greens and pinks for the spring, or red,
white and blue for the Fourth of July.
-
Use Different Sizes of Candles for a Designer Look
– You can give your fireplace candelabra a professional designer look
by simply changing the size and shape of your candles. Think about using
several sizes of column candles at the same time. Or you can use a few
globe candles in the front and some column candles in the back. Tea
light candles work well with fireplace candelabra that do not have
center pins. Experiment with them and see what looks good to you.
-
Take Your Fireplace Candelabra Outside –
Candelabra made for your fireplace are usually pretty sturdy. They are
generally made out of wrought-iron or some other very durable material.
This makes them ideal for use outside. Try using your fireplace
candelabra as a centerpiece on your patio table. If you have a long
picnic table, you can use a candelabrum that is designed for a smaller
fireplace. How about using a couple candelabra to decorate either side
of your front door, or back door? If you are worried about your candles
blowing out from gusts of wind, you can use votive candles surrounded by
glass, but your candelabra cannot have center pins for this to work.
-
Put Your Fireplace Candelabra on Your Mantel – For
those of us who have gas or electric fireplaces, and do not wish to
remove the fake logs during the warm season, consider placing a
candelabrum or two on your mantel. This is actually a very classic way
of decorating your fireplace. Use fireplace candelabra that are made for
smaller fireplaces or zero clearance fireplaces.
-
Put Your Fireplace Candelabra on Your Hearth – If
you do not have a mantel, you can place your fireplace candelabra on
your hearth just as easily. Be sure to add a little greenery in the
spring, maybe a sting of fall leaves in the autumn and some pine needles
and cones in the winter for an added special touch.
-
Use Your Fireplace Candelabra as a Dining Room Table
Centerpiece – What if you do not own a fireplace? You can still
find great uses for these versatile home décor items. They work great
as a centerpiece on your dining room table. Just place some elegant
tapered candles on them and add a few sprigs of greenery and you have a
beautiful centerpiece in minutes that looks like it took hours to
create. This is also a great way to use your fireplace candelabra during
the winter months when you are actually using your fireplace for a warm
fire.
-
Create Ambiance With Scented Candles – To create a
calm and relaxing atmosphere in your home, you can add lavender or
vanilla scented candles to your fireplace candelabra. If you want a
romantic mood, try a little sandalwood or jasmine scent. For a warm,
homey feel, you could use apple and cinnamon. Virtually any mood can be
enhanced by a little aromatherapy. Be creative and have fun.
-
Place a Mirror in Your Firebox to Reflect Light –
This trick is one of my favorites and it is super easy. Find a mirror
about the same size as the back of your firebox. This can be framed or
unframed, your choice. Simply lean the mirror up against the back of
your firebox and light your fireplace candelabra candles. The mirror
will reflect the light from the candles and give the illusion of twice
as many candles. It is a really beautiful effect.
- Place Glass Beads Under Your Fireplace Candelabra –
This trick is also simple, but has a dramatic effect. Find some glass
beads at your local craft store that are the same color as your home
décor. You can also use clear glass beads for a versatile option. Fill a
tray with the beads and place under your fireplace candelabra. Scatter a
few beads around the tray to hide the edges of the tray. The beads will
reflect the light from your candles into millions of flickering points
of interest. Be creative with this. Use colored beads for a special
holiday, or use red beads for a romantic evening. The possibilities are
limitless.
These ideas are meant to give you a taste of the creativeness you can
use to decorate your fireplace. Have some fun brain-storming and
thinking up new ways to use your fireplace candelabra. Remember to be
safe and remove your flammable decorations before lighting your candles.
Go for it today! Let your creative juices flow. Find your favorite fireplace candelabra and a few decorative additions
and you are ready to make your fireplace uniquely yours!

Cleaning your fireplace is never going to be a fun thing to do. But
it is necessary. So why not make it a little easier by using the right
tools? A good quality fireplace tool set can make scooping and sweeping
up those ashes easier. A nice ash bucket (also called a coal hod) is a great
place to store your ashes until you are ready to dump them. Some of
these useful tools have an insulated bottom so that you can put warm
ashes in them without worries of damaging your flooring. Many ash
buckets come with a second handle on the side to help with pouring.
As with most hearth products, fireplace tool sets and coal hods can
be left on the hearth because of their decorative quality. There is no
need to hide them or store them in a closet. Simply return them to the
hearth and proudly display these essential fireplace accessories.

Are you tired of sweeping and sweeping
and sweeping and feeling like you’ll never be able to get rid of all
those ashes? Learn about a great way to get rid of fireplace ashes,
without the mess of sweeping.
I remember when I was young; one of my household chores was to clean
out the fireplace. Sitting there with the fireplace brush and pan in
hand, I dreaded the thought of going over and over the same spot with
the brush, never able to quite get all the ashes. The ashes just seemed
to magically slip through the bristles of the fireplace brush! As I
would try to sweep the ashes onto the fireplace pan, they would
strangely find their way under the ash pan, instead of inside it.
The clouds of tiny ash particles also bring back memories of holding
my breath for as long as I could while sweeping. I would then turn aside
my head and gasp for air, only to gulp down an ash-flavored puff of
dust. After hours of trying to get every last particle of ash, the next
task was to get rid of all of it. As I recall, I used a paper bag with
the edges rolled down as the catch-all for my ashes. The problem with
using that came when I would try to close the bag carefully without
letting any of those pesky ashes escape. Most of the time, another
ash-laden puff would mysteriously arise out of the bag, just as I was
getting the top rolled back down on itself.
Another memory of this childhood chore was the black soot that would
inevitably find its way onto every bit of exposed skin, not to mention
the lovely mess it made out of my clothing. Taking a shower after this
unpleasant chore was an absolute must, for even after cleaning off the
visible black soot marks, there was still an almost invisible dusting of
ash over everything. But before the shower could be taken, there was
the mess of ash that was now on the floor outside the fireplace. A damp
washcloth was the item of choice to take care of that.
So now that I’m “all grown up,” does that mean I no longer have to
worry about that nasty ash clean-up chore? Well, yes and no. I now live
in a house that has three fireplaces. Yes, you read that right…. Three
fireplaces! You’d think after memories of that ash cleaning chore I’d
pick a house with no fireplace, right? Wrong. I absolutely love
fireplaces, especially the good old wood burning kind. The sound of the
crackle and the smell of the wood just cannot be replaced. It’s so
romantic and heartwarming. In fact, in my mind, Christmas wouldn’t be
complete without a roaring fire in the fireplace. So yes, I do still
have to clean up the ashes in my fireplaces; but no, I don’t have to
worry about it anymore. Thankfully, there has been a great new invention
since my childhood, called the ash
vacuum. Okay, maybe it was around when I was little, but apparently
my parents didn’t know about it, and certainly I didn’t know about it.
These ash vacuums are a godsend. They are specially designed with a
fire-resistant hose so that you don’t even have to wait until your ashes
are completely cold before neatly sucking them up. Some of them use
double filter systems, so you won’t have tiny ash particles floating all
over your house after using the vacuum. Unlike regular shop vacuums,
these specialized ash vacuums can filter down to 5 microns and can move
air 7 to 10 times more than the typical vacuum. Some of them even come
with decorative paint, so you can leave them on your hearth as part of
your home décor. They typically measure only twenty to thirty inches in
height and around 20 inches in diameter, so they can easily be stored in
a small closet.
So give yourself a break from the difficult job of cleaning out your
fireplace after you have taken the time to enjoy it. Get yourself a
time-saving tool that will make this necessary evil not quite so
tedious. You’ll be able to enjoy your fireplace more often without the
dread of having to clean up afterwards.
